Globalizing Islamic Psychology through ICIPSY

The Psychology Study Program (Prodi) of the Faculty of Psychology and Social and Cultural Sciences (FPSB) of the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) held an international conference for the first time this year. A conference called the International Conference on Islamic Psychology (ICIPSY) will be held on 18-19 December 2018. This conference has the theme 'Reviving the Roats and Responding to Today's Challenges', "the spirit is to return to the basic principles of Islamic psychology," said Wanadya Ayu Krinadewi as Chairman of the committee.

The aim of this event is to answer current psychological problems through an Islamic approach. "For example, we as psychologists not only reduce the client's anxiety but also encourage him to improve his initial intentions (as psychologists)," explained Wanadya. Wanadya also emphasized that as a Muslim psychologist, "intervention must be intended to get closer to Allah, so that it can manifest in reducing the client's anxiety."

ICIPSY is actually a series of conferences which includes two conferences, namely the Islamic conference and also the Bionet conference. This conference is in partnership with Bionet which was founded by Professor Marcus Stueck. Bionet is also a large conference that has previously held international conferences. Marcus Stueck, with his Bionet, has the enthusiasm to voice Islamic psychology concepts to a much larger intellectual community. Therefore, he also provided the platform in the form of Bionet. The hope is that there will be a wider dialogue, because the jargon of bionet itself is Art Meets Science which includes spirituality.

This collaboration with Bionet can also increase insight into Islamic psychology in terms of psychological measurements. It is hoped that the insights related to this measurement instrument can add to the treasures of Islamic psychology in studying more empirical psychological phenomena.

Publication of this event was carried out long before its implementation. Publications include posters posted on the website, sending emails to all previous NCIP participants and their networks. Apart from that, the committee also put up banners at several points to make the UII environment known. Invitation letters and physical posters to Psychology Departments throughout Indonesia were also distributed.

Lastly, Wanadya hopes that through this conference Islamic psychology can be known to the wider world. It is not only known as a theoretical approach but also as a psychological approach. Both in terms of methods and psychological interventions.
